मोहाली - क्रिकेटच्या जीवनात एकाच सामन्यात पाच वेळा जीवदान कधीच मिळाली नसल्याची भावना सचिन तेंडुलकरने बुधवारी (ता. ३०) व्यक्त केली आहे.

पारंपरिक प्रतिस्पर्धी पाकिस्तानचा २९ धावांनी पराभव करून भारताने विश्‍वकरंडक क्रिकेट स्पर्धेच्या अंतिम फेरीत धडक मारल्यानंतर सचिन पत्रकारांशी बोलत होता. सचिन म्हणाला, "पाकिस्तानविरुद्धच्या सामन्याच्या वेळी देवाचा माझ्या डोक्‍यावर आशीर्वाद होता, आज पर्यंतच्या खेळीत कधीही एवढे जीवदाने मिळाली नव्हती. माझ्या बाबतीत हे पहिल्यांदाच घडले आहे.'

शनिवारी (ता. २) श्रीलंकेच्या विरुद्ध अंतिम सामना होणार असून, आम्ही फलंदाजी, गोलंदाजी व क्षेत्ररक्षणात चांगली कामगिरी करू. श्रीलंकेचा सुद्धा चांगला संघ असून, ते चांगली कामगिरी करतात. मुंबईतील सामना चांगल्या प्रकारे होईल. खेळाच्या वेळी संयम राखून खेळावर पूर्णपणे लक्ष केंद्रित केल्यावर नक्कीच विजय मिळेल.

'मेलो ड्रामा'मला आवडत नाही

"या वळणावर' या मालिकेबाबत काही सांग ?
- "या वळणावर' हा "फॅमिली ड्रामा' आहे. पण असं असूनही या मालिकेत बऱ्याच रहस्यांची गुंफण आहे. पुढे काय होणार याची सातत्याने ओढ प्रेक्षकांना लागलेली असते. "डेलीसोप'मध्ये आता पुढे काय होणार ही जी "स्टेज' आहे, ती खूप महत्त्वाची असते... ती "स्टेज' या मालिकेत वारंवार पाहायला मिळते. एखाद्या घटनेचा नात्यांमध्ये काय गोंधळ उडू शकतो, याचं चित्रण यात दाखविण्यात आलंय. त्यामुळे ही मालिका नक्कीच वेगळी आहे. नेहमीचाच "ड्रामा' या मालिकेत नसून नात्यांमध्ये रहस्यामुळे उडणारा गोंधळ यात दिसून येतो.

ही मालिका स्वीकारताना कोणत्या गोष्टींचा जास्त विचार केला होतास ?
- या मालिकेची कथा खूप छान आहे. "या सुखांनो या' मालिकेनंतर मी एकही मालिका स्वीकारली नव्हती. कारण मला सांगून आलेल्या बऱ्याच भूमिका या माझ्या वयापेक्षा बऱ्याच मोठ्या होत्या. म्हणजे एखाद्या कोण्या अभिनेत्रीची आई वगैरे.... मला सध्या तरी अशा भूमिका करायच्या नाहीत. त्यामुळे या भूमिकांना माझा नकारच होता. पण या मालिकेत मिळालेली भूमिका ही इतर भूमिकांपेक्षा वेगळी आहे. या भूमिकेला नुसतं स्थान नाहीय, तर वेगळी "इमेज' आहे. एक महत्त्व आहे, असं म्हटलं तरी चालेल. या सर्व गोष्टींचा नीट विचार करून ही मालिका मी स्वीकारली.

या मालिकेत तू अविनाशसोबत आहेस, कसं वाटतंय ?
- खूप छान वाटतंय... मी अविनाशसोबत एक मालिका केली होती. पण त्यानंतर बऱ्याच वर्षांचा गॅप पडला होता. त्यानंतर या मालिकेत आम्ही एकत्र काम करतोय. एक तर सेटवर आम्ही एकमेकांना वेळ देऊ शकत नाही. अविनाशसोबत काम करताना काहीच दडपण नाही वाटत, कारण या मालिकेतही त्यानं माझ्या पतीचीच भूमिका केली आहे. आम्हाला दोघांना एकमेकांच्या सर्वच गोष्टी माहित असल्यानं मालिकेत आमचं "ट्यूनिंग' खूप चांगलं जमतंय. त्यामुळे भूमिकाही "नॅचरल' वाटतेय.

बऱ्याच दिवसांनी कौटुंबिक मालिकेत दिसतेस ?
- हो, ही गोष्ट खरी आहे की मी बऱ्याच दिवसांनी कौटुंबिक मालिकेत आहे. आत्तापर्यंत मी केलेल्या सर्वच मालिका कौटुंबिक पातळीवरच्याच आहेत. कारण अशाच मालिका मला आवडतात. मला उगाचच "मेलोड्रामा' आवडत नाही. मला वाटतं की आपण "लॉजिकली' अभिनय साकारला तर तो प्रेक्षकांनाही आवडतो. त्यामुळे अशा प्रकारच्या अभिनय करण्याकडे माझा जास्त कल असतो. शिवाय या मालिकेत माझी प्रत्येक गोष्टी जाणून घेतली आहे.

अजून कोणते प्रोजेक्‍टस्‌ तुझ्याकडे आहेत ?
- "या वळणावर' या मालिकेसोबत मी "डोर' ही हिंदी मालिका करतेय. एक चित्रपटही केलाय. शिवाय "कॅम्पयन' नावाच्या चित्रपटाची निर्मिती केलीय. लहान मुलांसाठीचा हा चित्रपट आहे. या चित्रपटाला आम्ही बऱ्याच ठिकाणी पाठवलंय. ग्रीसमध्ये या चित्रपटाला "बेस्ट ज्यूरी ऍवॉर्ड'देखील मिळालंय. लखनौ चित्रपट महोत्सवातही हा चित्रपट दाखविण्यात आलाय.

माझी शाळा (सई ताम्हणकर)

कुठल्याही मंदिरापेक्षा माझ्या आयुष्यातलं माझं जिव्हाळ्याचं देवस्थान म्हणजे माझं विद्यामंदिर, माझी शाळा. आईशी जेवढा जिव्हाळा, तेवढाच माझा शाळेशीही. त्या वेळी मला शाळेशिवाय करमायचंच नाही. शाळेला ज्या दिवशी सुट्टी असायची तेव्हा घंटेचा आवाज कानात घुमत राहायचा आणि मी दुसऱ्या दिवशीची आतुरतेने वाट बघायचे.

कसा कुणास ठाऊक, पण मला माझ्या शाळेतला पहिला दिवस अजूनही अगदी तस्साच्या तसा आठवतो. मला शाळेत सोडून, शाळेशेजारीच आमचे "फॅमिली फ्रेंड' राहायचे तिकडे आईने थांबायचं ठरवलं होतं. मी अक्कल लढवून "बाई बाथरूमला जायचंय' असं खूप केविलवाण्या स्वरात सांगून खाली गेले आणि आई जिथे आहे त्या दिशेने डोळे खिळवून जोरदार भोकाड पसरलं! हा क्रम जवळजवळ एक आठवडा चालला, मग हळूहळू सगळ्यांशी गट्टी जमली आणि मी रमून गेले माझ्या विश्‍वात.

खूप गोड आठवणी आहेत माझ्या शाळेच्या. हृदयाचा हा कप्पा जेव्हा मी उघडते तेव्हा डोळे आपोआप किरमिजे होतात आणि गालावर हसू उमटतं. हो प्रियकराची एखादी गोड आठवण स्मरली की होतं ना तसंच!

लहानपणापासून मी महावात्रट होते. हा गुण नक्कीच बाबांकडून घेतलेला आहे मी. जवळजवळ आठवड्यातले तीन दिवस मुख्याध्यापिकांच्या ऑफिसमध्ये अंगठे धरून उभी (!) असायचे. खरं सांगू का मला ना दोन मुली खूप छळायच्या, दंगा स्वतः करून नाव माझ्यावर घ्यायच्या आणि मग आम्ही तिघीही अंगठे धरून केबिनमध्ये... आज त्या दोघीही माझ्या खूप चांगल्या मैत्रिणी आहेत आणि सुखाने नांदतायत.

शाळेत असताना एक सर किंवा बाई असतात, ज्या आपल्याला देवासमान वाटतात. माझ्यासाठी माझं दैवत होतं ते कनप सर. अतिशय शिस्तबद्ध, हुशार आणि प्रेमळ व्यक्तिमत्त्व. मी पाचवीत गेले तेव्हा सर शाळा सोडून गेले. माझ्या जगातले जणू रंगच हरवून गेले. ढसाढसा रडण्यात एक आठवडा घालवला. आजतागायत आमची भेट नाही. आज मी जे काही काम करतेय ते त्यांच्यापर्यंत पोहोचावं... अशी माझी कळकळीची प्रार्थना.

आमची बॅच सगळ्यात दंगेखोर बॅच म्हणून प्रसिद्ध होती आणि या राक्षसी बॅचवर फुलांचा वर्षाव करायचे आमचे सी.बी.के. सर. सरांच्या गालावर चोवीस तास हसू असायचं आणि ते वर्गात आले, की आम्ही दंगेखोर नग कसे काय शांत व्हायचो, आणि आमच्याही गाली कसं काय हसू यायचं ते परमेश्‍वराला ठाऊक. सर, मी प्रत्येक नवीन प्रोजेक्‍ट स्वीकारताना तुमच्या पाया पडते... तुम्ही आज असता तर तुमच्या खास शैलीमध्ये "अरे वा !' असा शेरा मारला असता. तो ऐकायला कान कायमचे मुकले... पण तुम्हाला वंदन केल्याविना माझ्या काळजाला उसंत येत नाही.

शाळा मला जीवापाड प्रिय... आमचे सगळे वॉचमन काका, मावशी, ते ग्राऊंड... ती झाडं... ते वर्ग, पेनाने गिरवून काळीनिळी झालेली बाकडी या गोष्टी मला डोळे बंद करता क्षणी दिसतात. मी जी काही घडले ती शाळेत.

आज मी रुबाबात इंग्रजी फेकत असेन तर ते माझ्या गोखले सर आणि अभ्यंकरबाईंमुळे. कोणत्या प्रसंगी काय कपडे घालायचे याचं भान कुसगांवकरबाईंमुळे, झाडांविषयी प्रेमा जोशीबाईंमुळे, अपार कष्ट करण्याची हिंमत पाटीलबाईंनी दिली... शिस्तीला आपला मित्र बनवलं ते एस.एस.के. सरांमुळे, प्रत्येक क्षण जगायला शिकवलं साखरे सरांनी.

लेखणी मला परत शाळेत घेऊन गेली असती तर किती मजा आली असती. पण एक गोष्ट अगदी मनापासून सांगते. माझ्या हृदयातला हा शाळेचा कप्पा मी वारंवार उघडते. खूप बरं वाटतं. फुलपाखरू होऊन बागडल्यासारखं वाटतं.

Biography

Pu La Deshpande was born on 8 November 1919 in Girgaon in Mumbai to Laxman and Lakshmibai Deshpande. His family moved to Mumbai and then to Pune and settled there, for job purpose. He received his college education at Fergusson College in Pune and Willingdon College in Sangli.

In 1946, Deshpande married Sunita Thakur, who is an accomplished author herself and has acted in some plays in the past. They had no children.

For some years, Deshpande worked as a college professor in Belgaum in Northern Karnataka and a school teacher before embarking on his career in writing and in the multiple fields of acting, directing, and composing music in the world of movies. (As regards his stint as a college professor Deshpande was to write later that his job was to create hate for Marathi language instead of love for it.This was more an attack on the system of education than on the teaching job itself).

He worked for government owned Indian TV and was deputed to BBC in UK for a year long training after which he spent some time in France and also what was then West Germany. His travel book "Apurwai" is based upon his stays in England, France and Germany.

Deshpande took lessons in playing harmonium from Dattopant Rajopadhye of Bhaskar Sangitalaya. He was proficient in Hindustani classical music and was an accomplished music director and singer. Being a proficient writer, he wrote screenplays and lyrics for several Marathi films and was also music director for some Marathi films. Purshottam Laxman Deshpande died in Pune on 12 June 2000 aged 80 of Alzheimer's disease.^[2]

A park in Pune city ( the city which he had adopted as home town) has been named after him.

Literary accomplishments

Deshpande was a prolific writer and produced numerous original works as well as adaptations of works from other languages into Marathi. He preferred to identify his Marathi adaptations of plays and novels in other languages as bhawanuwad (भावानुवाद), meaning "adaptation of the essence". Most of his writings are deeply rooted in Marathi language which some consider as his command over the language while some others consider it as a shortcoming. He is best known for his wit and his detailed observation and ability to put it succinctly. He was awarded a Sahitya Academy award for his book Vyakti Ani Valli.

• सुंदर मी होणार (Sundar Mi Honar):

The play highlights the struggle of a middle-aged woman who is unable to walk because of an ailment. She is a daughter of a King orZamindar of a small princely state in India. The play captures the conflict between her father and her brothers, and depicts changes in their lives after the British Raj took over their princely state. A poet, who is a pen friend of the protagonist, helps her gain confidence which enables her to start walking again.

• तुझे आहे तुजपाशी (Tujhe ahe Tujapashi):

The play casts criticism on authoritarian religious leaders and also depicts the positive and colorful view of life and generous spirit of a character in the play, which is in stark contrast to that of another character, an authoritarian religious leader. In the end, the latter recognizes the shallowness of his life.

On December 11, 1988, aged just 15 years and 232 days, Tendulkar scored 100 not out in his debut first-class match for Bombay against Gujarat, making him the youngest Indian to score a century on first-class debut.

Sachin's debut match was against Pakistan in a test match on 1989. His one-day international (ODI) debut was on December 18 against Pakistan. His maiden ODI century came on September 9, 1994 against Australia in Sri Lanka at Colombo, just six years after his debut.

In 1995, Sachin Tendulkar married Anjali (born November 10, 1967), a paediatrician and daughter of Gujarati industrialist Anand Mehta. They have two children, Sara (born October 12, 1997), and Arjun (born September 24, 1999).









He narrowly missed out on becoming the then youngest Test centurion in Napier in February 1990, but Tendulkar finally gets it at 17 years and 112 days. A wonderful rearguard innings at Old Trafford in August 1990 still remains one of his best



Tendulkar's first Test hundred in India also comes against England. He hits 24 fours and one six in his 165 in Madras(Chennai) as India go on to win by an innings and 22 runs



In November 1992, Tendulkar's 111in the second Test against South Africain Johannesburg makes him the youngest batsman to reach 1000 Test runs. His century comes in a first-innings total of 227



Captaincy goes, but Tendulkar the run-machine is at its best in 1998. Two of his favourites - opponents Australia and venue Chennai - come together, and the bowlers pale into insignificance as his second-innings 155 turns a deficit into a match-winning total. Later, a certain Mr. Shane Warne suffers from nightmares



At the same ground in 1999, the first sign his body is suffering. In spite of a back injury, Tendulkar scores a masterful 136. India, though, fall short by 16 runs against Pakistan, and a poor fourth-innings record remains a blot in Tendulkar's CV



Even the Don takes note of Tendulkar's batting, and says the Indian batsman's style resembles him the most among those from the modern era. Tendulkar's tour of Australia in 1999-2000 - he's captain as well - is not in keeping with high expectations, with a few rough decisions coming his way



He yet tops the batting charts for India. India's hopes fade whenever he departs, and the captain cuts a lone figure as his team loses all three Tests. He steps down from captaincy during South Africa's visit in 2000



Tendulkar makes 10 in both innings, but he picks up three wickets in the Australia's second innings as India win the epic Test at Eden Gardens in 2001 to level the series



India and Tendulkar have an unsuccessful tour of New Zealand in 2002-03. The team begins the 2003 World Cup in South Africa under pressure; however, they make it to the final with Tendulkar the Player of the Tournament



A workmanlike innings in Sydney during the 2003-04 Australia tour helps Tendulkar to his first double-century overseas. His unbeaten scores of 241 and 60 - in Steve Waugh's farewell Test - almost results in a series win



Another 10,000: During his 52 against Pakistan in the Kolkata Test in 2005, Tendulkar becomes the first to score 10,000 runs in both Tests and ODIs



At home in Australia: The crowds are entertained as Tendulkar makes two hundreds in the four-Test series in 2007-08. India lose 2-1, but Tendulkar goes home a happy man, scoring 117 not out and 91 as India beat Australia in the finals to clinch the tri-nation one-day tournament



Playing a Test in Pakistan after nearly 15 years, Tendulkar scores an unbeaten 194 - a declaration denies him the double. However, it's Virender Sehwag - who developed with Tendulkar as a role model - who steals the show in Multan, becoming the first Indian triple-centurion



Captaincy comes calling, and Tendulkar leads India to a win in the one-off home Test against Australia to bag the newly instituted Border-Gavaskar Trophy, named after two players he would eventually join in the 10,000-run club



A special win: Tendulkar holds the trophy after India beat England 1-0 during their 2007 tour, his first series victory outside the subcontinent Come Chennai and he's back to his best. Makes a hundred in the first innings as India win a memorable series 2-1

Riding on his fantastic performance in the tri-series in Sri Lanka, veteran Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar today returned to the top-10 of ICC one-day rankings, rising five places to seventh.
